There is some yellow toning from age, some slight glue stains around it but nothing serious. There are also some scratches here and there. This originally was owned by Myron Braum (see more about him below). Reverse includes various notations and stampings from France and Germany. There is also a stamp stating: 20th Century Fox Foto: Frank Powolny. A nice historical style photo that has been overseas and here in the US as owned by an American. Provenance: Formerly from the personal collection of Myron Braum. Then by collector Bob Jones of Dallas, Texas. For further information, please read the Condition Description. Please feel free to ask any questions. Provenance: Bob Jones of Dallas, Texas. Jones collected antiques and movie memorabilia for many years. He bought from many auctions and estate sales. On one such occasion, he was at the Dallas Convention Center where he located many vintage stills and miscellaneous items from the collection of Myron Braum. Even though Braum had been an old time Hollywood film collector of many stills of Norma Shearer, Jones could not find but a few of her. However, he amassed a significant amount of many other stills and items that belonged to Braum including stills of Rudolph Valentino, Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich and Elvis Presley among others. Myron Braum was a part of a group that collected all kinds of vintage movie photographs (also known as stills) from the golden age of Hollywood. He even wrote a book to showcase his collection of Norma Shearer stills called The Films of Norma Shearer. He co-wrote the book with Jack Jacobs. In the 1970s, Myron Braum hosted gatherings and parties at his Hollywood Apartment for a kindred spirited group of friends that included Joanna Morgan (a Greta Garbo collector), Bill Chapman (a Judy Garland and Garbo collector), and Dore Freeman (a Joan Crawford collector). However, it must be added that the entire group collected many other film stars over the years. Braum was a sociable and warm host. At times though, Braum found himself being an arbitrator trying to settle disputes within the group. This was because there was an implication of competitiveness, envy and addiction to collecting. For instance, if one group member showed overenthusiasm of what still he/she was showing than another would display a trace of superiority by including a newly added one from their collection. Beyond this there was a sort of fantasy that they could somehow mysteriously materialize themselves to the actual star of stars from each photograph. This could bring them closer to the enchantment of the actual celebrity. As if they could touch the star of their choosing at any given moment. In addition, the photographs could help them relive the moment’s that they saw a particular film. Braum’s own collection was meticulously organized. By the time Braum passed away in the late 1980s, the then veteran group had been diminishing one by one. Within months after each demise, there was a growing flood of each collector’s stills and items showing up at antique shows and markets, movie material stores, conventions and the like. And so they came into the hands of collector’s like Bob Jones. The item “Vintage Original Sensational Marilyn Monroe Frank Powolny Photograph #1″ is in sale since Saturday, December 12, 2020.
