This photograph of a 1939 Cadillac La Salle was made by Stephen Salmieri with a 4 X 5 plate camera in 1974 for his celebrated book CADILLAC: An American Icon (Rizzoli 1985) The photograph was also the cover of the 1986 edition of Jack Kerouac’s ON THE ROAD. This same model that Kerouac and Robert Frank drove across the USA in 1958 in the making of ON THE ROAD and Frank’s THE AMERICANS. Signed Salmieri and dated 1974 on the verso. Image size is 7 X 9″ on 8 X 10″ gelatin silver darkroom print made by the artist. Corner mounted on white archival board and museum packaged.
