JEAN HARLOW by GEORGE HURRELL 1930's MGM HAND-COLORED! DOUBLE-WT 10x13 PHOTO

GEORGE HURRELL + JEAN HARLOW. Up for sale is one of the most dynamic vintage photographs I’ve had the pleasure of owning. It’s simply one of the quintessential glamour portraits ever taken, and, it’s one of the greatest examples that has survived. It’s a RARE 1930′s MGM issued hand-colored original. All the big studios released oversized hand-colored silver gelatins on their top female stars back in the 1930′s. Often these special photos were sent to magazines for color publication, or, the movie stars themselves have been known to gift them out to “special” VIPs or fans. The labor-intensive hand coloring cost a LOT more, and so they made and issued very few of these as compared to the standard black & whites. Now and again, you’ll see vintage hand colored portraits reproduced in books or magazines, but rarely will you see an original surface, especially as stellar as this one. I’ve personally been studying and taking note of these hand colored portraits for over 40 years now, and when they’re done right – as this one is – the vintage look has always moved me. I have to say, I’m moved just looking at the picture I’ve posted of this original! This is by far the best example of an original 1930′s hand colored print out there! That’s why I bought it – I wanted the best example of a hand colored portrait that I could find, being it a standardly issued studio format. No doubt, this was it! The portrait photographer, the star, and, the coloration couldn’t have been better! The stunning final image presents that warm and vintage’Depression-era glow that I fell in love with as a youth. I rarely find any genuine Depression-era artifacts that present it so well. Again, this is THE best example of this kind of portrait that I’ve ever seen. It’s perhaps the best that exists. Nevertheless, it’s a winning still by anyone’s measurement. Hollywood’s favorite studio photographer, George Hurrell, took this remarkable image of MGM’s top box-office bombshell at the height of their careers back in the 1930′s. Hurrell is generally accepted as the #1 greatest Hollywood glamour photographer of all time. Today, portraits of Harlow are arguably known as Hurrell’s best works. Let’s put it this way, despite the fact that Harlow was photographed by many others, and, despite the fact Hurrell photographed many others, when one sees a portrait of Harlow they immediately think of Hurrell. Their work together is incomparable. This image is right up there with the best of what they’d achieved. That’s why MGM choose this image to be hand-colored. I’ve see other images from this same Hurrell shoot issued by MGM in Black and White, but I’ve only this one shot with the hand-coloration. Below I’ve posted a link to that listing for reference. It too is 10×13 inch Double-Wt. PHOTO FROM THIS SAME SHOOT! It can crash regardless of any decision you make and can even crash regardless of any decision made by the company related to the stock – Leaving you with a near worthless piece of paper that won’t inspire anyone! The magnificence of art and historic documents have an inherent value that relates to civilization and society. This vintage photograph is definitely ECONOMY PROOF! FOR MOST ITEMS LISTED.
